NOTIFICATION OF ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE WORK TO THE WHITGREAVE LANE BRIDGE OVER THE M6, BETWEEN THE A38 AT STONE AND THE A5013 CRESWELL GROVE IN STAFFORDSHIRE

Highways England Notice 16/02/17

Highways England (HE) are carrying out an essential repair scheme on the overbridge that carries Whitgreave Lane (between A34 Stone Road and A5013 Creswell Grove) over the M6 Motorway.

The scheme involves carrying out remedial works to the existing bridge safety barriers (parapets) and expansion joints, which are coming to the end of their working life. This will ensure the safety and reliability of the bridge for many years to come.

They plan to start the work on 20 February 2017 and finish on 18 March 2017. To minimise disruption to road users, HE will undertake this work at night from 20.00 to 06.00, Monday to Friday. The bridge will be kept open during the day.

To maintain a safe environment for our workers and customers, we will need to fully close the bridge at night for the duration of the works. During the closures we will put the following fully signed diversion route in place, which we have agreed with the local authority. This will ensure that access to residential properties is maintained at all times.

Westbound traffic will be diverted south along A34 Stone Road to M6 junction 14. At junction 14 they will take second exit along A5013 Creswell Grove to Whitgreave Lane.

Eastbound traffic will be diverted south along A5013 Creswell Grove to M6 junction 14. At junction 14 they will take 2nd exit along A34 Stone Road to Whitgreave lane.

We advise all motorists to use the signed diversion routes as we have carefully chosen this with suitability and safety in mind. We also encourage all drivers to stick to speed limits and follow appropriate signage to ensure the safety of those working on site and fellow road users.

We will also need some temporary overnight lane closures on the M6 for the installation and removal of traffic management at the start and end of the works.

We have notified key stakeholders including the emergency services and local residents and businesses.

Please note that all planned roadworks are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. We will do our very best to complete the work as quickly as possible, keeping disturbances and noise to a minimum.
