I am committed to the highest standards of animal welfare, and to making the UK a world leader in the field. It concerns me that some have suggested the vote my colleagues and I cast on New Clause 30 of the EU Withdrawal Bill somehow signalled a weakening in the protection of animals.

EU Withdrawal Bill

There has been some controversy in the past week over the EU Withdrawal Bill. I will come to that. But I want first to write about the progress of the UK’s negotiations with the European Union which are far more important in the long term and which are reaching a critical stage.

UK set to benefit from Airbus Türksat 5A and 5B satellites contract

Jeremy has welcomed news on new contract signed by Türksat with Airbus Defence and Space for two new generation communications satellites.

The satellites will be built by Airbus in their UK and French facilities, helping to secure high-value jobs in the economies of both countries.

Energy ‘smart meters’ connect to a consumer’s electricity and gas supply and allow them to see and adjust in real-time what energy they are using. By 2020, the Government wants every home in Great Britain to have a new ‘smart meter’.
